The Luyties Homeopathic Pharmacy Company Building located at 4200 Laclede
Avenue was originally constructed of timbers in the early 1900s. According
to a company legend, after the first factory in the neighborhood was destroyed
in a fire the president called for a totally fireproof replacement. Determined
to create a fireproof building, Architect Fredrick Bonsack’s response
was clearly ahead of its time — a building made entirely of concrete.
From 1915 to 2001, this location served as the home for Luyties Homeopathic
Pharmacy Company, which is one of the world’s largest producers
of homeopathic remedies.
